Five Things You Should Know about Knowing God…

1.)  Start with your heart!

The bad news is that you can't trust it!  The Bible says that your heart is deceitful and NOT to be trusted.  We all weave tangled webs to help us deny the ugly reality about who we are and what we are really capable of.  The Bible says the heart is deceitful above all things, desperately wicked, and unknowable.  Jeremiah 17:9

2.)  God wants to change what we cannot change.

The good news is that God wants to change our hearts.  In fact, he wants to give us new ones.  He dies this by bringing us into a living relationship with His Son, Jesus Christ.  2 Corinthians 5:17.

3.) The simple truth.

Entering this relationship with Jesus is so simple that even a child can come to know Him.  You can step right into this relationship with Him in a matter of minutes.  John 3:16, 1 Corinthians 15:1-4

4.)  Are you thirsty??

If you are longing to fill that vacuum that is within you, we urge you to turn to God in simple repentance, asking Him to forgive your sins on the basis of the fact that Jesus died to take away your sins.  Christ died on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins.  Because He was raised again from the dead you can have new life right now!  John 4:13

5.) The choice is yours.

You can either take your chances and rest in your own good works (an impossible thought!) or rest in the work which Jesus Christ has already done for you.  You see, salvation is nothing more than resting in what Jesus did for you when He died on the cross. Romans 10:2,3; Romans 10:9-13.

Evidence you really know God

1. You have a change of heart and thinking

2. You want to please God and not yourself

3. You have a desire to grow spiritually in God

4. You display the fruit of the spirit in your life

5. You see yourself, others and the world through the eyes of Jesus

John 5: 24 "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life".

Mark 8:36 "And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul"?

Matthew 5:6 "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled".

1 Peter 2:2 "As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby"

Mark 8:36 "And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul"?

Galatians 5:16-26 "So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.17 For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want.18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.19 The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires.25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other".

Misconceptions and deceptions about ourselves

1. I'm ok, your ok

Romans 3:10,12 "As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one...there is no one who does good, not even one'.

Isaiah 53:6 "We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way"

John 8:24 "Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”

Luke 19:10 "For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

1 Timothy 1:15 "Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners —of whom I am the worst".

2. Everyone is born a child of God

1 John 3:10 "This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother"

3. I was born a Christian

John 3: 1-8 "Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews ; 2. this man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, "Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher ; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him." 3. Jesus answered and said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God."4. Nicodemus said to Him, "How can a man be born when he is old ? He cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born, can he?" 5. Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.6. "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.7. "Do not be amazed that I said to you, 'You must be born again.'8. "The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going ; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit."

4. There are many ways  to God

Jesus saith ..., I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (John 14:6)

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. (Acts 4:12)

For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. (1 Tim 2:5-6)

5. No one can know anything for sure

Romans 10:13 for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

Hebrews 11:1 "Now faith is the assurance that what we hope for will come about and the certainty that what we cannot see exists".
Understanding our true spiritual condition

1. We are sinners who stand condemned before God

Romans 6: 23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord".

John 3: 18 "Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son".

Romans 3:19" Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

2. Our sin has separated us from a relationship with God

Isaiah 59:2 "Your iniquities have separated you from
your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear".

3. We cannot save ourselves though good works, religion or positive thinking

Ephesians 2:8-9 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast".

Galatians 2: 16 "Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified".

4. We are all born into Satan's family

John 8: 44 "For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies"

1 John 3:10 "This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother".

5. We stand deceived within ourselves

Proverbs 14:12 "There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death"

Revelation 12: 9 "And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world:

1 John 1:8 "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us".

6. If we recognize that we are lost sinners and receive Christ as our Savior (deliverer) and Lord (Master)  He reconciles us to God by becoming the payment for our sins.

Isaiah 53:6 "We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all".

1 John 2:2 "He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins--and not only our sins but the sins of all the world".
Receiving God's free gift of Redemption and Reconciliation for yourself

1. Come to the end of yourself and human resources

Mark 8:34-35 Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it."

Galatians 5:24 "Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires".

2. Reject the world's philosophies

Ephesians 4:17-24 "So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. 18 They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. 19 Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed. 20 That, however, is not the way of life you learned 21 when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. 22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness".

3. Turn to God through Jesus His Son

John 1:12, "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name"

Romans 10:9-10, 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Galatians 3:26 "For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus".

John 3:16-20 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed".

4. Give God complete control of your life

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 "Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies".

5. Put your complete confidence, faith, dependence, trust and hope in Jesus as your only Lord and Saviour for the regeneration, restoration and reconciliation of your soul to God

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!  All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them.  And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.  We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.  We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God.  God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." II Cor 5:17-21

Ephesians 1:11-14 "In him we were also chosen,[a] having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, 12 in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. 13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory".

Personally Knowing God!
Every human being needs to be revived.  Revived means to be brought back to life.  To have life restored to us.

1. To bring back to life or consciousness; resuscitate.
2. To impart and regain new health, vigor, or spirit to.
3. To restore to use, currency, activity, or notice.
4. To restore the validity or effectiveness of.
5. To renew in the mind; recall.
6. To return to validity, effectiveness, or operative condition.

The Bible teaches us that we are all born spiritually dead and need God's spirit to bring us back to life with God.

Ephesians 2:1-10 "As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. 3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh[a] and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. 4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions —it is by grace you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith —and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do".

Colosians 2:13 "And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened (made alive or brought back to life) together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses".

A dead person cannot respond to God and therefore only God can resuscitate us spiritually.  This is what Jesus meant in John chapter 3 when he told a good religious man that he needed to be born again.  We all need to be given new life that will bring us back into a relationship with God.  Our sin has brought both physical and spiritual death, making it impossible for dead people to give themselves new life. Here are some things you need to know to have your life restored to God.

According to Psalm 85:6 We need to be brought back to spiritual life with God in order  to really enjoy life.  Many are only existing for the sake of existing but not really living the abundant life that Jesus promised us when we believe in him. Every human being needs to be revived spiritually to experience the outrageous joy, freedom, peace, love and hope that Jesus has provided for us that believe in Him.  Have you been restored to God's family through the new birth?  Jesus said that every person needs to be born again because "The thief's purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life". Do you need to be revived spiritually?

Romans 5:10-18 "For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! 11 Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

Death Through Adam, Life Through Christ

12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned —

13 To be sure, sin was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not charged against anyone’s account where there is no law. 14 Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who is a pattern of the one to come.

15 But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! 16 Nor can the gift of God be compared with the result of one man’s sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification. 17 For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!

18 Consequently, just as one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people, so also one righteous act resulted in justification and life for all people.
